While the Swine Flu (H1N1) emerged into the world and students in Texas became a little frightenend that the Swine Flu would effect their education or their sport activities. Lubbock School District teacher Penny Carpenter saw an opportunity for her students to gain knowledge in this topic. Carpenter teaches GIS/GPS which the students have tracked hurricanes in forest fires through out the world. Carpenter took this opportunity and jumped with it and so did her students. Her student's attention got captured because now they would try and track the Swine Flu. The class began looking at border towns that were infected since the virus outbroke in Mexico. These students made a map of all the cities that were infected with the Swine Flu and found out that the cities that were infected were closest to major expressways. This taught the students more than just a lesson but a real world technique. I found this extrememly interesting and it caught my attention because students can figure this out just by the usage of computers.

Eight ways to use school Wikis
http://www.techlearning.com/article/22064
Using Wikis help school intrusction and helps teachers and professors be organized inside the classroom and out. Wikis helps professors stay on top of his daily notes and announcements. Its helpful to his students to see his announcement for the day and it also alows themt o ask questions about an assignment. It also helps meeting become more efficient by planning them fully on Wikis. It is extrmemely helpful to the staff to see what is exactly going on and what is happening in team meetings. It also helps save trees since all this is possible on the computer. This kind of reminds me of what we use at school, Blackboard. We are able to see assisgnments, do quizzes and tests, and see all of our grades. It also helps the professors post our assignments instead of printing out sheets and sheets for all of their classes that day.

studednts with disabilities excel in summer work program
http://www.techlearning.com/article/22374
The article was about helping students with disabilities find work work during the summer. There was a six-week summer work program at Intermediat School District in Plymouth, Minnesota that trained 26 students with disabilities and it was so successful that the school district decided to make it a regular part of its training opportunities starting this Fall. This summer program taught the students document imaging tasts that involve scanning work which is exacting, repetitive, clearly defined, and requires little social contact. Two-thirds of the students in the summer program had an Autism Spectrum Disorder. It helps them gain workplace skills. Aaron, who has autism, is now able to work in a finance area and is using high speed scanner to upload check stubs and reciepts, which could exceed 100 pages for a single stub. I think this is a great opportuninty for the students with disabilities who need that extra help.
